Reasons and consequences of poverty rates in Venezuela

Venezuela's poverty level is close to 80%, ranking the country even above Haiti, according to the National Survey on Living Conditions. Luis Pedro Spain, a researcher at the Andrés Bello Catholic University who led the investigation for the ENCOVI report, points out that the increase in poverty is mainly due to the 70% decrease in the Gross Domestic Product.
