National Assembly of Ecuador accepts resignation of the vice president and receives shortlist from Lenín Moreno

This Friday, the National Assembly of Ecuador accepted the resignation of Otto Sonnenholzner to the vice-presidency of the country with 96 affirmative votes.

(CNN Spanish) –– This Friday, the Ecuadorian National Assembly accepted the resignation of Otto Sonnenholzner to the vice-presidency of the country with 96 affirmative votes.

The President of the Assembly, César Litardo, informed by means of a tweet that they received the short list proposed by President Lenín Moreno. It is made up of María Paula Romo, Minister of Government; Juan Sebastián Roldán, General Secretary of the Presidential Cabinet and María Alejandra Muñoz, Director of the Customs Service.

"The plenary session of the Ecuador Assembly will know and democratically pronounce itself, as provided by the Constitution and the Law," wrote Litardo.

From the presentation, the Assembly will have 15 days to designate the new vice president, with the absolute majority of its members.

Sonnenholzner announced his resignation on Tuesday. “Ecuador needs new solutions to face the problems. So today, when we face a more stable situation, I can finally make this decision, ”he said at the time.

The 37-year-old businessman, economist and broadcaster was appointed vice president by the National Assembly on December 11, 2018, after the resignation of María Alejandra Vicuña, who in turn had assumed office after the removal of Jorge Glas.
