Some 400 people according to the organizers - 150 according to the prefecture - gathered on the territorial road 50, near Giuncaggio (Haute-Corse) where this technical landfill center (CET) is planned.

The Tavignanu Vivu collective (Tavignano alive) wanted to alert about this project which would "knowingly endanger the population, the economy and the environment" of an entire region. He had contacted Emmanuel Macron on this subject at the end of 2019.

He points in particular to the potential disastrous repercussions on the Tavignano, the second river in Corsica, located a stone's throw away.

And he indicated his willingness to seize the Council of State soon. "We have already started approaches to Europe, they are on the right track and supported by MEPs," he announced in a press release.

Several island politicians, like deputy Jean-Félix Acquaviva, and members of associations of Extinction Rebellion, Global Earth Keeper or the anti-mafia collective "A maffia no, a vita ié" ("no to the mafia , yes to life ”) were also present.

Among them, the singer of the group I Muvrini, Jean-François Bernardini. “Everywhere on the whole planet we are worried about water resources. Faced with these alarming realities, we are not ready to passively witness the revolting and scandalous spectacle of the courts which give their approval to inject thousands of tonnes of waste and poison into the 2nd Corsican river for 30 years, ”he said. he pitched in a live video.

The Giuncaggio CET project, carried by the private operator Oriente Environment, provides for an annual capacity of 70,000 tonnes for 30 years. He had first been blocked by a prefectural decree, following his challenge by environmental defense associations, residents and the territorial community of Corsica.

But the Bastia administrative court had canceled this decree on October 3, 2019, in the middle of a waste crisis on the Isle of Beauty. And on July 3, the Marseille Administrative Court of Appeal "confirmed the validity of this judgment" and dismissed the appeal before it.

With no incinerator on its territory and with only two landfills, in Prunelli (Haute-Corse) and Viggianello (Corse-du-Sud), Corsica has been experiencing a waste crisis for the past twenty years. In 2018, the island produced more than 236,000 tonnes of household waste. It sorted 73,000 tonnes (up 24% from 2017) and buried 163,000 tonnes.
