After a difficult qualifying session, Briton Lewis Hamilton took pole position at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, and will start first on Sunday in the Styrian Grand Prix, the second race of the Formula season. 1.

The task was not easy for the pilots and several had serious problems in maintaining control of the cars. In fact, the Q1 was stopped early due to an accident that the Italian Antonio Giovinazzi starred on board his Alfa Romeo.

Finally, Hamilton, on board his Mercedes, imposed a surprising superiority under water: he achieved a time of 1: 19.273 and beat the Dutch Max Verstappen (Red Bull) by 1.216 seconds, who on Friday had been the best in free practice. .

"What a difficult day! In many moments you couldn't see where you were going. I love these days! I think we are prepared for all the track conditions for the race on Sunday," said the Englishman after taking pole position.

The third place went to the Spanish Carlos Sainz (McLaren, who was located 1,398 second of the six-time world champion. In the fourth place was the Finn Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), at 1,428 second.

French Esteban Ocon (Renault), Briton Lando Norris (McLaren), Thai Alexander Albon (Red Bull), French Pierre Gasly (AlphaTaury), Australian Daniel Ricciardo (Renault) and German Sebastian Vettel completed the first ten places. (Ferrari).
