In Soroka, a rare operation of Echinococcus removal was performed, a cyst with a child's brain parasite that became paralyzed in his left torso after a dog parasite was infected. The mother of 6-year-old Kusai Alhamidi, from the Negev region, has noticed that lately the child is dragging his left leg and suffering from headaches, especially in the morning. The child's condition worried his parents and they turned to children's cronies in Soroka.

At the examination, doctors were impressed with signs of weakness in the left torso, and signs of increased intracranial pressure. The doctors decided to perform an urgent CT scan for the child. The test demonstrated a large cystic process that causes considerable stress on the brain originating from an echinococcus parasite. Following the findings of the examination, the diagnosis and verification of the diagnosis in MRI was completed and the child was urgently transferred to the operating room. During the complex surgery, the cyst was completely removed from the brain.

Dr. Israel Melamed, director of the neurosurgery department of Soroka, explains: "The surgery requires a very high skill, as cyst injury and software ejaculation could have caused a severe allergic reaction and the dispersion of parasite eggs in and around the brain. The surgery required close cooperation from the team and prepared for every possible scenario at the time of cyst removal. "

According to Dr. Melamed, "Kosai's disease was caused by the echinococcus parasite found in the intestine of dogs, foxes and wolves. These animals secrete the parasite eggs in their faeces. Sheep, cattle, and sometimes humans, eat these eggs and when hatching the parasite usually comes to the liver. Sometimes the parasite does not stay in the liver, but continues with the bloodstream and settles in health and other organs, including the brain. "

Dr. Melamed adds: "In this surgery, I went back to my distant past, when I was a young neurosurgeon in Uzbekistan and performed surgery to remove echinococcus frequently. That name was common. "Dr. Yuval Soffro, the department's deputy director, who was one of the surgeons, said the cyst removed from the child's head was a relatively large 7 cm in size. After the operation, Kosai was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit in Soroka. Significant and he was released from the department in a light condition as he walks normally and feels very good.

Amani, Kosai's mother: "I have no words to thank the staff. From the moment of arrival to the ER, there was an accurate diagnosis and my son was urgently admitted for surgery. Just saved his life."
