Wei Zhicheng, administrative director of the Urban Renewal Authority published a blog today (12th), saying that he has implemented a trial plan to convert a piece of land in the district into a plantable site. Among them, a member of an elderly center in the district forms a voluntary gardener group with a neighborhood, etc. And planting activities started at the end of May. In addition, a pilot project for mural creation has been implemented in the district. Students, parents and district councillors in the district will create murals. A painting will show the street scenes in the former Central and Sheung Wan districts. In the future, community guides will be jointly organized with district primary schools.

Wei Zhicheng said that since the end of last year, the URA began to plan community nursery projects, hired a social enterprise "Pu Yu" to assist in management, and provided technical support for the development of community nurseries. He said that after inspecting the flattened site in the H19 project, it was determined that a piece of land with an area of about 45 square meters located in the west of Huaxian Square can be converted into a planting site.
The URA also recruited volunteers from the "District Residents", including an elderly center in the district, to jointly plan the recruitment of volunteer community gardeners. A total of 27 related teams were formed at the end of May and planting was started immediately. Participants included elderly center members, neighborhoods and URA staff.

Promotion of mural creation preparation for community guided tours
The Urban Renewal Authority also implemented a pilot project for mural creation in the district. 34 elementary school students, parents, principals, teachers in the district, together with local district councillors and mural creation artists, will be on a 17-meter-long fence on Chenghuang Street , Co-creating a mural showing the street scene in the former Central and Sheung Wan area. The mural was completed by the end of last year.
Wei Zhicheng said that the URA is now preparing another pilot project. In the future, it will co-organize a community guided tour with the elementary school in the H19 project. The URA and the neighborhoods will introduce the culture of the area and make oral history. The story allows senior students to have a deeper understanding of the school’s community.
