South Korea implemented a mask purchase restriction system at the beginning of the outbreak of new coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) in late February. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on July 12 that the system, which has been in operation for about 4.5 months, ended on the same day.

Yonhap News Agency reported on the 12th that consumers can purchase medical masks including KF94 from pharmacies, supermarkets, convenience stores, and online sales channels according to market prices.

In Korea, the mask purchase restriction system was implemented from the end of February to the beginning of March. At that time, the public could buy a limited number of masks in pharmacies for 1,500 won per week, from 2 at the beginning to 10 later.

The government will also impose a term of imprisonment of less than 2 years or a fine of 50 million won (approximately HK$323,000) for acts such as hoarding masks in accordance with the Price Stability Law.

South Korea continues to maintain restrictions on the export of masks, but will increase the quantity available for export. In addition, the government continued to ban the export of surgical masks and anti-saliva masks in response to the domestic demand for products this summer.
