The Saudi news network "Al Arab" reported Sunday that a senior Hamas military commander defected to Israel and that the Hamas Interior Ministry approved the news.
It was also reported that 16 activists in Hamas' military wing, Izz Din al-Qassam, were arrested for questioning following the case and suspected that they were in contact with Israeli intelligence.
Social media users claimed that the defector was the commander of Hamas's naval commando and his deputy, who crossed the border into Israel via the sea and surrendered to the IDF.
Hamas's naval commando is a force developed to carry out attacks against IDF forces and Israeli civilians by sea. The incident revealed the strengthening of the naval commando force and the means Hamas is investing in its development.
