Date of last update: 2020-07-13 11:34The Development Bureau announced today (13th) that the Learning Subsidy Scheme under the Urban Forestry Development Fund has started accepting applications to encourage young people to join the arboriculture and horticulture industry as arborists and arborists. Eligible applicants will receive funding ranging from 6,000 to 20,000 yuan after completing the course.
Through the Learning Funding Scheme, eligible applicants who enroll and complete the horticulture, junior colleges, and training institutions in Hong Kong are qualified in the second to fifth levels of the qualification structure and are accredited in arboriculture, tree management, and arboriculture work Courses will be awarded learning aid. The subsidy for the arboriculture and tree management courses is half of the tuition fee or $20,000, whichever is lower; and the subsidy for the arboriculture work course is 70% or $6,000, whichever is the lower.
For students who have achieved a total score of 20 (based on the best five subjects) or above in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, students who apply for and complete a full-time arboriculture and tree management full-time course with qualification level 5 and recognized Scholarships are issued for the full amount of tuition per academic year or 50,000 yuan, whichever is lower.

A spokesman for the Development Bureau said that the Learning Assistance Scheme is expected to benefit about 300 students per academic year, helping to nurture sufficient and qualified practitioners to support tree management and maintenance in Hong Kong. The Learning Assistance Scheme accepts applications from young people who are interested in becoming arborists and arborists throughout the year. Relevant application forms and guidelines can be downloaded from the Development Bureau’s Urban Forestry Development Fund website.
