Hungary will ban Tuesday nationals of African countries such as South America, most Asian countries and some European states from entering its territory on Tuesday, its government citing the worldwide resurgence of coronavirus cases on Sunday. From Tuesday at midnight, Budapest will introduce a traffic light system and residents of countries classified as " red zone " will no longer be allowed until further notice to enter this central European country, until now relatively spared from the pandemic.

We have to keep ourselves safe so that the virus is not brought in from abroad. The infection rate here is declining and we want to keep it that way , "Prime Minister Viktor Orban's chief of staff Gergely Gulyas told reporters in Budapest. African, South American and Asian countries, with the exception of China and Japan, are affected by this new measure. In Europe, it concerns Albania, Bosnia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Belarus, Montenegro and Ukraine. Hungarians from these destinations will be allowed to return to their country but will have to undergo a mandatory test for the new coronavirus and undergo a mandatory quarantine of two weeks, said Gulyas.

Orange and green zones

This classification system also includes orange and green zones. Travelers from the orange category must confine themselves if they have not obtained a negative result for the coronavirus screening test within five days of their arrival. This category includes in particular Bulgaria, Portugal, Sweden, Romania, the United Kingdom, Norway, Serbia, Russia, the United States, China and Japan.

No restrictions are imposed on trade with remaining States classified as green zones. Hungary, a member country of the European Union of 9.8 million inhabitants, had officially registered, as of Sunday, 4234 cases of contamination and 595 deaths attributable to the epidemic.
