Via a press release from the Sotaco group, Samir Ben Romdhane officially announced that he was throwing in the towel regarding the takeover of the Béziers club after a new unfavorable opinion from the DNACG issued earlier on Monday. “We met the Mayor, Robert Menard, who in an exchange of great cordiality asked us for our support on the future of the Béziers rugby club. We met with the leaders and we proposed to buy the club with the condition of making no loss or profit and that any investment be intended only for the club, the supporters and the inhabitants of Béziers. We came in peace and not with the idea of carrying out a heist. Many times we have had the idea of throwing in the towel because in no way did we want to force or force anyone to sell. Our project was simple: to give Béziers its letters of nobility with our friends Yannick Pons, the child of the country and Christophe Dominici, the child of rugby. (…) While we had brought, within limited and constrained deadlines, all the elements requested, and that we legitimately thought that all the signals were green, we received an arrow forcing the DNACG not to be able to give its immediate agreement and having as a first consequence not to make the necessary recruitment in time to give Béziers its true place in French rugby. We leave sad and we know that the heart of Biterrois is bleeding and crying… So is ours because the magic of a project has died out today. ”
