(CNN Spanish) - Naya Rivera was drowned after leaving with her son in a rented boat to navigate Lake Piru, in California, according to authorities.

The 4-year-old boy was found asleep in the drift boat a few hours after they left the dock. The minor was wearing a life vest and another vest was found inside the boat. Rivera's son said his mother had gone swimming, Ventura County Sheriff's Captain Eric Buscho said.

 Who is Naya Rivera?

The 33-year-old actress became famous for her role as Santana López in the television series "Glee" from 2009 to 2015.

According to IMDB, Rivera was born on January 12, 1987 in Valencia, California.

He is of Puerto Rican descent. As she said in the show "The View" in 2015, "my mom is half Puerto Rican, half black."

He began his television career in the series "The Royal Family" from 1991 to 1992, and also appeared in the popular "Family Matters" for three chapters, IMDB review.

Most recently he participated in the series "Step Up: High Water", where he played Collette Jones from 2018 to 2019.

In 2016, Rivera published his memoirs in a book called "Sorry Not Sorry", in which he revealed that he had suffered anorexia when he was young and that he also aborted while acting in "Glee".
