Hong Kong's new coronary pneumonia epidemic is very serious, and today (14th) an additional 48 confirmed cases have been confirmed. A 92-year-old patient who was admitted to the general ward of Queen Elizabeth Hospital was diagnosed yesterday. He was admitted to the same ward and a 77-year-old woman who was in the bed opposite the diagnosed patient was also diagnosed today.

The newly diagnosed elderly woman had been admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Buddhist Hospital before being diagnosed, and was also a guest of Lok Fu’s Helping Hands Association HSBC Bank Lok Fu Nursing Home. At present, four Buddhist hospital patients are required to undergo quarantine observation, and the nursing home residents involved are also subject to virus testing.

As for whether the case involves intrahospital transmission in hospitals, Liu Jiaxian, Chief Administrative Manager (Quality and Standards) of the Hospital Authority, emphasized that the source of infection for elderly women is currently uncertain. The patient in question is a 77-year-old woman (#1563) and is currently a guest of Lok Fu’s Helping Hands Association HSBC Bank Lok Fu Nursing Home.

The patient fell on June 28 and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was discharged on July 2. After staying in the nursing home for about half a day, he was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital again because of high blood pressure at night. Later, due to the controlled situation, he was transferred to the Buddhist Hospital for rehabilitation treatment until July 12.

Negative for the first test

As a 92-year-old female patient (#1513) who was admitted to the general ward of Queen Elizabeth Hospital was diagnosed earlier, after tracking, she found that the newly diagnosed old woman had shared the room with the 92-year-old patient on July 12 and arranged Seek medical treatment in the hospital bed opposite to it.

Liu Jiaxian said that when the newly diagnosed elderly woman received the first test at the Buddhist Hospital, the result was negative. However, because she was a close contact with a confirmed case, the authorities arranged for her to be admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital isolation ward, but after a second test, the result was positive, and the virus value (CT Value) reached 31. Liu Jiaxian described the patient's virus index as "high", but he was not sure whether the patient had the initial disease or had contracted the disease earlier.

The newly diagnosed old woman had been asymptomatic. Liu Jiaxian pointed out in the press conference that the new doctor's notice that the patient began to have "some fever". The authorities will always follow up on her symptoms and viral load, and will conduct blood antibody tests to understand Did she contract the disease earlier?

Buddhist hospital shares a room with four patients

Liu Jiaxian also pointed out that there were four patients in Buddhist hospitals who had been admitted to the same ward with the newly diagnosed elderly woman. Therefore, they need to track the patients and arrange treatment in isolation wards. As for nursing homes where elderly women stay, the authorities will also send staff to the scene to inspect and arrange for the residents to undergo a virus test.

According to the license information of the residential care home, the involved hands to assist the HSBC Bank Fund Lok Fu Nursing Home can accommodate up to 75 seniors.
