The Magistrate's Court in Tiberias today (Wednesday) extended the detention of the suspect in the prohibited husband of the 12-year-old girl in a tent on the Sea of Galilee until Tuesday (21.7). The suspect in the act was arrested yesterday, two days after the girl's parents filed a complaint with the police. Police are investigating a suspicion that the suspect, against whom there is strong evidence, is involved in further sexual assaults in the area.

The serious incident occurred on Saturday around 4:00 p.m. The 12-year-old girl from the south of the country was staying at the same time with her sister in a tent on Zinbury Beach in the Sea of Galilee. The girl who was sexually assaulted, woke up and saw a foreign man touching her. Her sister awoke from her screams and called her parents to sleep in the nearby tent.

Police sources expressed shock that due to the social workers' strike, the girl who was attacked, as well as her younger sister, who was sleeping next to her and woke up from her screams, had not yet undergone a child interrogation. On Sunday, the Exceptions Committee convened to decide whether to allow a social worker to interrogate the girl despite the strike, but the police request was denied.

The girl was taken to Bnei Zion Hospital in Haifa, which provides treatment to victims of sexual assault, where the examination also ruled out the fear of rape, but the police have evidence of serious sexual assault. The police collected evidence and collected findings, including materials taken using security cameras that network the beach under the responsibility of the Kinneret Cities Association.

The girl, like her younger sister, has not been questioned to date and this may outweigh difficulties in the progress of the investigation. At the same time, during a hearing in the Tiberias Magistrate's Court, the police representative answered the suspect's defense attorney's question that, "the suspect was arrested based on forensic findings, including technological means."

The hearing on the extension of detention further revealed that the detectives who arrested the suspect encountered strong opposition. "There were riots around his arrest, stones were thrown and vehicles were damaged, an attempt was made to stop the vehicle leaving the village and they tried to get it out of the hands of the police."

The police asked Judge Yariv Navon to allow the suspect's name to be published, the judge granted the request but the defense attorney issued a restraining order pending the hearing of the appeal which will take place tomorrow at noon.

"Regarding the publication of the suspect's details, I believe that the applicant's position should be accepted," said Tiberias Magistrate's Court Judge Yariv Navon. "Caution is usually required when considering the possibility of publishing the identity of a suspect, especially when it comes to the first detention extension and there is doubt that this publication will infringe on him and his rights irreversibly. The balance changes when it comes to sexual offenses. In this case. In a real and tangible way, the incident for which he was arrested. "

"Another reason that justifies the publication of the suspect's identity is the possibility that this suspect is connected to other incidents in fairly similar circumstances that have occurred recently in the area," Judge Navon added. "The public is interested in publishing the details of a suspect who allegedly committed other sexual offenses. The public's right to know and thus even assist the police in revealing additional cases and allow investigation of additional complainants. Already at this stage there is an indication that this is not a single or one-time incident. "Since there is a public interest and the needs of the investigation justify, he granted the request and allows the applicant to publish the identity of the suspect. At the request of the defense, a delay in execution until tomorrow at 12:00 for appeal, if no appeal is filed, this decision will take effect immediately."

Advocate Said Hadad, who represents the suspect in the sexual assault of the girl on the Sea of Galilee on behalf of the Public Defender's Office: "This is a young man with no criminal record. He denies the allegations and we are waiting for the police to complete the investigation soon. "
