Luo Jianxi, vice chairman of the Democratic Party and chairman of the Southern District Council, was arrested this morning (15th). The Democratic Party posted on social media this morning that Luo Jianxi was suddenly arrested by the police at about 6:30 this morning. It is believed to be related to the conflict at the Polytechnic University on November 18 last year, and a team of lawyers has been arranged to assist. It is understood that Luo Jianxixing and four others were accused of illegal assembly and are currently on bail.

It is understood that officers of the Police Organized Crime and Triad Investigation Bureau arrested a 36-year-old man in a residential unit in Kwun Tong this (15th) morning. The man is the current Chairman of the Southern District Council, Luo Jianxi. Suspected of committing the crime of illegal assembly on the site of the riot outside the Polytechnic University campus on November 18, 2019, and illegally assembled with more than 100 people in the Science Museum Plaza and the Centennial Park. After consulting the Department of Justice, the police decided to arrest Luo Jianxi and prosecute the illegal assembly.

In addition, the police also arrested four other men, aged between 21 and 70, who were also suspected of committing the crime of illegal assembly and will be charged with illegal assembly. All the arrested persons have been released on bail and will appear in the Kowloon City Magistrates' Court on August 21, and will be interrogated together with the five persons arrested earlier.
