LE FIGARO. - Morocco will gradually reopen its borders from July, but will not welcome this summer the usual flow of tourists who spend their holidays there. Will this weigh heavily on the country's economy?
Pierre VERMEREN. - Morocco, like all Mediterranean economies, has been plunged into great economic uncertainty since the Covid crisis. The collapse of the GDP of its South European partners and the Gulf monarchies creates an unprecedented vacuum. The cessation of tourism, which in the strict sense represents 7% of GDP (but more than double with induced activities), is a heavy blow to national activity; but all the indicators are red, because Morocco is a very open economy which depends on the inflows and outflows of capital in many areas. The duration and extent of the Covid crisis to come will be decisive.
