Dolce & Gabbana chooses a Milanese hospital for its Spring-Summer parade

2020-07-17T02:25:37.314Z

Dolce & Gabbana revealed this July 15, in front of a masked audience, its new collection, a tribute to the Italian summer and to Gio Ponti.

The words, written in large letters on the facade of a building, overhung the guests. "Everything is going to be alright", "Everything is going to happen" in French. A phrase that announces better days, after a crisis that shook Italy and during which Dolce & Gabbana committed for his country by supporting research against Covid-19, via a project with the Humanitas University Hospital of Milan. Also note, during confinement, the launch of a crowdfunding platform, still open, with the objective of reaching 1 million euros in donations - the company also promises to double the amounts given after the parade, while all the teams who worked on the production of the event worked free of charge to show their support for the cause.

It is moreover in the gardens of the hospital that the guests in the flesh, obviously masked and respectful of the rules of social distancing, were invited to take their places. An amazing choice? “It's not exactly a place people like to go to. Especially right now. But we want to dispel this received idea, these places are home to a cutting-edge research center. It's unprecedented. It is important to give the right signals: we are there, we are continuing, we are moving forward. With masks, maintaining the necessary distances, but nothing stops fashion, "confided Stefano Gabbana to Le Figaro at the end of June.

The performance opens with that, vocal, of three singers, in navy suits and white sneakers. Then opens the ballet of silhouettes, more than a hundred looks, as often with Dolce & Gabbana, whose shows are always a spectacle. For this new men's collection, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana drew their inspiration from a hotel in Sorrento, a city facing the bay of Naples, the Parco dei Principi, designed by the architect Gio Ponti where they have their habits. An ode to summer and Dolce Vita , in the purest Dolce & Gabbana spirit, as illustrated by the introductory look, a printed silk bathrobe, worn open on a gold chain, matched with short belted shorts.

Ponti ceramics, which decorate the floor of the rooms of the Parco dei Principi, inspire patterns adorning the vast majority of looks: shirts, flowing pants, and accessories, from the bob to the swimsuit, passing through a kind of pareo, carelessly tied around the waist of a shirtless model. The colors, blue and white almost exclusively, evoke the Mediterranean. Prints of ancient and Renaissance inspiration dress silk shirts and pants. The costumes, often sometimes three-piece with a shawl collar, reinforce the Riviera spirit by adorning themselves with off-white, or are distinguished by their patchwork spirit, in different notes of blue, or even play on transparency.

While the two designers, masked as it should be, greet their audience, the trio of singers starts a cover of Domenico Modugno's hit, Nel blu dipinto di blu , whose references to the blue sky echo a collection of optimism radiant.
