The man, in his forties, was indicted for " complicity in usual violence against a minor under 15 years of age, because he allegedly instructed his friend to punish her daughter, which let him deny it, "the Saint-Etienne public prosecutor David Charmatz told AFP.

The suspect acknowledged the " non-reporting of violence against minors under the age of 15 ", for which he was also indicted, added the magistrate, adding that " nothing indicates that he participated in the acts which led to the death of the girl ”.

The young Léa's 29-year-old mother was indicted on July 3 for " murder and intentional violence against a minor under 15 years of age " and imprisoned. According to the prosecution, the autopsy established that the death was due to " peritonitis caused by a tear in the intestine following a severe blow to the stomach ". The child also presented " two recent fractures of the skull and nose (...) older traces visible at the ribs and sternum attest that she had been the victim of mistreatment for several weeks ", according to the same source.

A complaint against the newspaper Détective

Until then unknown to the justice system, this caregiver who was raising her daughter, whom she had had sole custody since last September, denies any responsibility for her death in their apartment in Rive-de-Gier during the night of June 30 to July 1 .

The father of the little girl, who has been exonerated as part of the ongoing investigation, filed a libel complaint on Thursday, we learned from a police source. This complaint relates to the newspaper " Détective " which, in its latest edition describes it as "spending most of its time in squats, drinking and taking drugs (...) rummaging through the trash bins of the Intermarché to find enough to feed her (editor's note) .
