The "Digital 360 Project" of the University of Hong Kong visited 53 schools from June to July to study the learning situation of fully adopting online teaching during the suspension of classes and the future needs, in order to find ways to increase the quality of online learning and prepare for future restoration Prepare for digitization in normal class.

The results of the study indicate that non-stop love classes generally have a good result, and the interviewees do not think it will bring long-term negative effects on their learning. The study also pointed out that the quality of online learning will be better if there are students in schools who have adopted e-learning and students with sufficient family support.

Luo Lu Huiying, deputy director of the Educational Application Information Technology Development Research Center of the Faculty of Education of the University of Hong Kong, led his research team to launch the "Digital Literacy 360" project, which openly invites all schools in Hong Kong to participate, and the schools decide on their own class and number of participants. From June to July, I visited 53 schools, including school leaders, more than 1,200 teachers, 1,300 parents, 5,050 middle school students, and 1,279 primary school students.

Don’t worry about the suspension time affecting the classroom, but worry about Internet addiction

"Suspension without suspension" generally yields good results. Even if the suspension is extremely long, school leaders, teachers, and most parents and students are not worried that the suspension will have a long-term negative impact on students' long-term learning outcomes or future development opportunities.

Students are mainly worried about the exam after class is resumed. A small number of students are also worried about their Internet addiction. Most students are willing to go back to school and face face-to-face classes, and think that their digital skills have improved; and school leaders and teachers Both the parents and the students believe that the digital skills of both students and teachers have improved, and the teachers also think that it will have little effect on the progress of teaching, but they are worried that students will find it difficult to grasp complex concepts.

Most interviewees think that “stopping classes without stopping school” achieves good results

There is a large gap in the quality of learning in the social economy and digital divide

Research has also found that there are classes in the school that use e-learning. For example, students who participate in the Bring-Your-Own-Device (Bring-Your-Own-Device) program generally perform better than other students in online learning. In the questionnaire survey, the teacher felt that if he had experience in BYOD classes, he would not feel too much pressure on online teaching and would be more confident in the effectiveness of his own online teaching.

Mr. Jin Weiming, Chairman of the Hong Kong Computer Education Association, pointed out that BYOD classes will be more familiar with using tablet devices in class, and will be more focused and learning, while non-BYOD classes will always be used for entertainment purposes, and they will be more distracted during class, and there will also be opportunities Due to the lack of equipment, including large-screen equipment (9.89%) and digital learning resources (17.79%), students may have to use the telephone to go to class, and the quality of class is also poor.

The study also pointed out that family support has a certain degree of influence on the quality of online learning. Families with lower socioeconomic status may not be able to provide their children with sufficient supporting facilities for online learning, such as stable Internet and large-screen devices. School leaders and teachers will think that the performance gap between students will be widened due to family support, and they will also think that students from disadvantaged families are lagging behind during the suspension period.

Students can use the phone to go to class due to lack of large-screen equipment.

Enhance online teaching ability first to deal with future mixed teaching

Regarding the preparation after class resumption, the school leadership mainly believes that the first priority is to enhance the ability of online teaching and learning to prepare for blended teaching (face-to-face and online blending); it is also necessary to find ways to reduce the increasing learning gap, such as providing supplements Bottom course or additional supplementary lessons.

Luo Lu Huiying, deputy director of the Educational Application Information Technology Development Research Center of the University of Hong Kong, believes that schools should refer to the positive online and offline experiences of other schools before and during the suspension, and formulate a school-wide comprehensive plan to incorporate adaptive and flexible online Various face-to-face teaching arrangements; also need to provide sufficient resources and other supporting facilities for students who lack a stable network or sufficient electronic devices; and strengthen cooperation between schools and community organizations to help students and parents in need.
