The index will initially track the 30 largest technology stocks by market capitalization, including Tencent Holdings (0700) and Meituan Dianping (3690). Citi pointed out in the report that the upcoming index will attract some investors to move from the Nasdaq to the index, and is optimistic about the connected equipment and medical-related industries, including Alibaba (9988), China Biopharmaceuticals (1177), Ali Healthy (0241), performance in the second half of the year.
The bank pointed out that the Hang Seng Technology Index covers Hong Kong-listed companies in the high-tech sector, such as Internet, financial technology, cloud, e-commerce and digital activities. Based on past data, the bank expects the index to achieve 36.2% and 35.3% returns last year and the first half of this year.
The report also pointed out that the index can attract more high-quality Chinese technology companies to list in Hong Kong, and it is expected that the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (0388) turnover will increase as a result, and more related index-linked products can be issued.
