Five children perished on Monday evening in a road accident on the A7 in the Drôme and four other people, three adults and a child who were in the same vehicle, remained in absolute urgency, said prefect Hugues Mouthou to AFP.

They are all members of the same family, added the prefect, specifying that the accident had occurred in Albon, in the South-North direction. “It’s off the road in a field,” he detailed, citing the track as a technical problem. The Ministers of the Interior, Gerald Darmanin and of Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari are expected on site in the coming hours, said the prefect.
On Twitter, Prime Minister Jean Castex provided support to the families and relatives of the victims. “My thoughts are with the families and relatives of the victims of the accident on the A7, in the Drôme. Support and solidarity with our wounded fellow citizens who are fighting for their lives. I welcome the mobilization of the security and rescue services and state agents, ”he declared.
