A former Formula 1 driver, Zanardi has become one of the great figures of handisport after having had both legs amputated in 2001 following a terrible accident during an IndyCar championship car race on the German circuit of the Lausitzring. The athlete was notably a four-time gold medalist at the 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games.
