Hong Kong Baptist University President Qian Dakang announced in November last year that he would not renew his contract and retired after the expiry of his contract in August this year. According to sources, PolyU Executive and Vice President of Academic Affairs Wei Bingjiang is the only candidate for the principal.

The chairman of the school board, Chen Zhenren, sent an e-mail to teachers, students and alumni a few days ago, stating that after being selected by the search committee, a principal candidate will be recommended, but he did not disclose the candidate's information.

The school will hold four open forums tomorrow (22nd) to arrange for candidates to formally meet with teaching staff, non-faculty, students and alumni. The school board will make the final decision on the same day.
