A 38-year-old climber died this Tuesday, July 21, in Savoie after falling in the Vanoise massif, according to mountain rescue services. His body was found around 4:00 p.m. at an altitude of 3,400 meters by the High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) of Courchevel which had been alerted two hours earlier by the victim's wife, worried about her delay.

The 30-year-old began on Tuesday morning the ascent by his normal route of the Grande Casse, a summit of the Vanoise massif located at an altitude of 3,800 meters, while the weather forecast indicated a gradual deterioration of conditions during the day.
His return was planned in a refuge located in the descent. " He was the victim of a major fall ", indicated the emergency services which favor the thesis of the accident. His body was discovered in the town of Pralognan-la-Vanoise after a reconnaissance by helicopter. An investigation was entrusted to the PGHM of Courchevel.
