British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab announced on July 20 a plan to expand the rights of Hong Kong British National (Overseas) passport (BNO) holders, and the government will announce details on the 22nd. BNO renewal conditions:

1. People who were born in Hong Kong after Hong Kong returned to China on July 1, 1997 are not eligible to apply.

2. Anyone who has applied for a BNO before Hong Kong's return to China is eligible for renewal even if the BNO has expired or even been lost.

3. If you were born before 1997, but did not apply for BNO at that time; and your parent has applied for BNO and filled in your name in the "included child" column of the passport, you can still apply for BNO.

The renewer needs to upload a passport photo. If there is a problem with the photo, the system will prompt you.

The requirements for renewing the BNO ID photo are as follows:

After completing the online form, the website will list the documents that the renewer needs to send to the UK, which generally include the old BNO passport (without corners), the double-sided color photocopy of the Hong Kong permanent resident identity card, currently held and not expired Full-color photocopy (each page, including the front and back cover) or original copy of the passport of other countries, and a proof of address issued within the past 12 months.

After the renewer pays the renewal fee with a credit card, the document must be sent to the UK by courier or airmail in one go according to the mailing address of the British Passport Office. If the renewal is approved, the documents submitted by the applicant will be sent back separately from the new BNO. The renewer will receive it in about 3 to 4 weeks.

Who needs a countersign?

If you renew your BNO on a regular basis, there is a good chance that you will not have to submit a countersignature. If your situation is consistent with the following description, you should submit a countersignature.

1. The appearance has changed greatly between two applications

2. The passport information needs to be modified (if the name has been changed)

3. Replace the passport that has been lost/stolen/damaged

4. Renew a passport with limited validity

5. The system is classified as a first-time passport applicant

6. First-time passport applicants (applicable only to BNO applicants whose name and information have been filled in the passport of the parent/mother)

The person who subscribes to you can only be someone who has known you for at least 2 years (non-relatives, partners); professionals (currently or retired) (staff and doctors working in the British Passport Office are not allowed, unless the doctor Is a friend); those who hold a passport from the United Kingdom (also with a BNO), Ireland, Commonwealth countries, EU countries or the United States.
