Deputies in Chile approve early retirement of pensions 1:34
(CNN Spanish) - The Chilean Chamber of Deputies gave the last approval, this Thursday, to the bill that will allow people to withdraw up to 10% of their savings in pension funds due to the coronavirus crisis.
With 116 votes in favor, 28 against and five abstentions, the deputies approved the latest requirements after several days of reviews between the Senate and the lower house. The measure must be endorsed by the President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, before becoming law.
The Piñera government has opposed the approval of this project since its inception and its authorities do not rule out appealing to a presidential veto.

"The problems that the middle class has do not have to pay for them with their pension savings, the State has to do it through different aids, contributions," said Interior Minister Gonzalo Blumel, stressing that the government continues to implement aid for those affected by the pandemic.
“There are still a few steps of the legislative process. Once these procedures are completed, the Executive will make the corresponding decision, "he concluded.
