Assistant Director of Correctional Services Department (Rehabilitation Services) Wen Mingqi said that persons in custody who take public examinations and obtain recognized academic qualifications will help them increase their chances of being hired after release. It will also help them to continue their studies and prepare for reintegration into society. .
Wen Mingqi continued that it is not an easy task for young persons in custody to participate in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination. Most of them only had a junior high school degree before entering the institute, and it took less than a year to catch up with the three-year high school curriculum. In the process, the trainees showed determination and perseverance to study and overcome difficulties in learning. The support of their families and the careful guidance and assistance of the staff and teachers of the Correctional Services Department also gave them great encouragement. He also called on the public to give the rehabilitated persons a fair opportunity, accept and support them to return to the community.
