"Mr. Minister, will you be the one who will know how to restore our confidence in justice? », The essence of the letter is in one sentence. The family of Ibrahima Bah, who died in a motorcycle accident in Villiers-le-Bel on October 6, 2019 near a police operation, wrote on Monday to Minister of Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti.
This letter comes a few days after the request for a change of scenery of the investigation by the family lawyer, M e Yassine Bouzrou. The council calls into question "the impartiality" of the magistrates responsible for investigating the file on the accident, after nine months of unsuccessful investigation.
The family asks, among other things, that the three police officers present at the time of the facts be heard, and that a copy of the file - in particular the video surveillance images - be given to them.
A petition signed by more than a million Internet users
The letter from the Bah family follows a petition sent on June 23 to the President of the Republic by a group of relatives of alleged victims of police violence and signed by more than one million (1,050,852) people. It asked, among other things, Emmanuel Macron to appoint a Keeper of the Seals that he will charge "as a priority to shed light on complaints of police violence resulting in death".
In the letter, Diané Bah demands Éric Dupond-Moretti “to honor [his] mission to deliver justice with dignity, rigor, and humanity. "" We, the families of victims, wanted to believe in justice. Disappointed, rejected, left in the dark, we have also launched petitions like throwing bottles into the sea, and we recently saw citizen mobilization flare up to support our demands for justice ”, he continues.
Diané Bah calls for the publication of figures on police violence
Ibrahima's big brother recalls the past of the tenor of the bar, and his involvement in the case of Théo Luhaka (in Aulnay in Seine-Saint-Denis), which he defended. “You have seen the pain of families up close, I sincerely hope that unlike all your predecessors, you will be the one who will break the silence and inaction that we face daily,” writes Diané.
He concludes the letter, after giving the story of the affair, by demanding that the Minister of Justice shed "all light on [his] brother's affair, as well as on the complaints of police violence resulting in death" .
Diané also demands the annual publication of figures "on the number of cases relating to allegations of police violence", and a circular, intended for the prosecution, for the "systematic" appointment of an investigating judge "in the event of alleged serious police violence.
