The British government announced the details of the expansion plan for the British National (Overseas) Passport (BNO) on July 22. The British government stated that from January 2021, Hong Kong residents with BNO can apply for a new visa and live in the UK up to 5 Years, after which you can apply for residence (settle).

According to the British government website, the British side will launch a new visa from January 2021, called "Hong Kong BN(O) Visa", for BNO holders and their close family members (close family members) to apply. You can apply in the UK or abroad through digital online application.

Applicants have more than one choice. They can choose to apply to the UK for 30 months (can be extended for another 30 months), or apply for 5 years in the UK in one go. After going to the UK, the applicant can work or study, but cannot obtain public funds, which means receiving social welfare.

Once the applicant has lived in the UK for 5 years, he can apply for settle (or indefinite leave to remain), and then he can apply to become a British citizen after having settled for one year.

The website lists 6 conditions that the applicant must meet, including:
1. The applicant must prove his BNO holder status, but does not need to prove that the BNO passport is still valid, or renew or reissue the passport specifically for this purpose
2. You need to be a person living in Hong Kong.
3. You need to show that you are financially able to support yourself to live in the UK for at least 6 months.
4. You need to show the willingness to learn English.
5. You need to obtain a tuberculosis test certificate (TB Test) issued by a medical service recognized by the British Home Office. Certificate) to prove health
6. Applicants need to pay fees and pay health tax (Immigration Health Surcharge).

The British side stated that it will announce the cost of this new visa (initial visa) or renewal visa (renewal) in due course.
