They had multiple gunshot wounds, according to an ANA forensic scientist. They are two notorious criminals wanted for murder in their countries of origin, Serbia and Montenegro, according to the Greek daily Kathimerini. Last January, two men were shot dead in front of their wives and children while dining in a restaurant on the outskirts of Athens.

The police then told AFP that the two victims were wanted by the Montenegrin authorities as " dangerous and violent " individuals under an international arrest warrant. According to Serbian tabloid Blic, they belonged to the Skaljarci clan, based in Kotor, on the Adriatic coast, which has waged a merciless war against neighboring rival clan Kavcani since the disappearance of 200 kilos of cocaine in 2014 in Valencia, Spain.

The settling of scores between the two rival gangs began in 2015 and left some 40 dead in Montenegro, Serbia and Austria, according to Blic Online.
