A Spanish security company, already accused of espionage by Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, is under investigation by Spanish justice into other alleged espionage acts against former Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa, said Friday, July 24 a judicial source. The judge in charge of investigating Julian Assange's complaint against the company Undercover Global and his boss David Morales Guillén ruled in June admissible the complaint filed by Mr. Correa against this company and Mr. Morales, according to a legal document consulted by the AFP.

In his complaint, Mr. Correa, President of Ecuador from 2007 to 2017, accuses Undercover Global, which ensured his security until 2019, of having followed and taken photos of meetings with Assange's lawyer, former Spanish judge Baltasar Garzon, and for writing reports in English on other meetings that took place in Belgium. Correa also accuses this company of having spied on his daughters' phones to access “ their chats (messaging), telephone conversations and images ” and of having notably stolen “ intimate photos ” of one of them.

Hidden "evidence of microphone recordings"

In this document, dated June 22, the judge in charge of the case indicates that he will call Mr. Correa, his wife and his daughters to appear as witnesses. Julian Assange claims to have been the victim for years of a spy system organized by Undercover Global on behalf of the United States when he was a refugee in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London between 2012 and 2019.

This Spanish firm was responsible for the security of the embassy. Assange's lawyers, including Baltazar Garzon, who will be heard on Monday by the Spanish courts in this case, claim to have " multiple evidence of recordings by hidden microphones " and cameras, company data and testimonies from former employees .

Julian Assange is being prosecuted in the United States for having disseminated as of 2010 more than 700,000 classified documents on American military and diplomatic activities, in particular in Iraq and Afghanistan. The examination by the British justice of his request for extradition by the United States must resume on September 7 after being postponed due to the epidemic of the new coronavirus.
