The idea of a ministerial portfolio dedicated to the animal condition had been suggested by several macronists, but the diffusion, this Sunday

The petition calling for a "ministry or a secretariat of state in favor of animals", with its more than 100,000 signatures, was not enough. While many associations campaigning for the protection of animals hoped to see the birth of a ministerial portfolio dedicated to this cause, the list of 11 Secretaries of State, released this Sunday evening by the Elysee Palace, does indeed rule out this possibility, mentioned in the report on animal protection submitted at the end of June by the LREM deputy Loïc Dombreval. An absence that this Sunday evening causes the bitterness of collectives working for animal welfare.

"The disappointment is great to note that the Secretary of State for Animal Condition is among the very absent", saddens in a statement the association Ethics for animal, which points to a "missed opportunity" about this secretariat " waited for years ”.

An "urgent need to support this sector"

"The entire animal protection sector had hoped that the Government would take into consideration the growing concern of the French for the animal cause", also reacts the association, describing a "real urgency to support this sector", due to a loss financial resources since the start of the year for many animal shelters and groups.

"This government is cut a little more from the population in terms of animal suffering", also protested the association Paris Animaux Zoopolis (PAZ). "Our minister sees animals as raw materials or objects of entertainment, not as sentient beings" adds this collective in its press release, which calls in particular for the end of animal captivity in circuses.

Even disappointment on the side of L214, known for its shock videos in slaughterhouses in particular. "No secretary of state for #AnimalCondition ... Will the preservation of living things concern all animals? "Tweeted the association, wondering about the contours of the biodiversity secretariat, resuscitated from the Holland years and attached to the Ministry of Ecological Transition, at the head of which the deputy Bérangère Abba has just been appointed.

No secretary of state for #ConditionAnimale ... will the "preservation of living things" concern all animals? 🤔
Animals used as food resources, objects of entertainment or laboratory equipment are still forgotten ...

What contours for the State Secretariat for Biodiversity?

The latter assured that she would work "for the preservation of life, the protection of nature and the environment", without further detailing what place the walker will give to animal welfare. Activists should now focus their hopes on the "referendum for animals" project.

This idea of a shared initiative referendum (RIP), launched by journalist Hugo Clément and supported by some fifty personalities and 23 associations, aims to improve the living conditions of animals in France via six bills. These relate to the ban on cage breeding, the end of intensive breeding, the ban on fur farming, the ban on shows with wild animals, the ban on hunting with hounds and the end of animal testing.
