" Recent national surveillance data show that young adults aged 20 to 39 years old, of all ages, have the highest incidence rates in Canada, " said Dr. Theresa Tam, chief administrator of the public health of Canada.

For the week ending July 22, the disease incidence rate was highest among young men and women aged 20 to 29 (14.4 and 13.8 cases per 100,000 people, respectively) , followed by 30-39 year olds.

"Young Canadians are not invincible"

" Young Canadians are not invincible " in the face of the disease, warned Dr. Tam, stressing that the elderly were not the only ones at risk of serious health problems if they were infected. She wants proof that of the cases of Covid-19 reported to public health last week, " 63% concerned young people under the age of 39, of which a third (31%) was hospitalized ". There was an average of 485 new cases reported each day for the whole country in the past week.

As deconfinement continues in Canada, Dr Tam called on his fellow citizens to be cautious and to respect physical distancing and hygiene measures. As long as there is no vaccine, living with Covid-19 will not be without risk, ” she added.
