In Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, insults mixed for a time with tributes. According to the Seine-Maritime prefecture, 11 people were arrested on Sunday on the sidelines of Gerald Darmanin's trip. The Minister of the Interior was insulted during the tributes to Father Hamel, assassinated four years ago by two jihadists in an attack claimed by the Islamic State group.
In full speech, the words "Darmanin dirty rapist" were uttered by one or more individuals, we learned from a source close to the case. The 11 people arrested were interviewed and four of them are in custody for contempt, said the prefecture, adding that "all are fined for prohibited demonstration".

According to the prefecture, the sector where the tributes took place was not closed. “Even if there was a ban on demonstrating, the area was open to the public,” the prefecture recalled. The people who “arrested the minister were exfiltrated”.
They are "known for belonging to the yellow vests and ultra-left movement", and the words uttered are not the fact of feminists, the same source specifies. The prefecture nevertheless recalls "that it is scandalous to take advantage of a ceremony of meditation" to commit this type of event.
Since his appointment to the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who is the subject of an accusation of rape and an investigation reopened by the courts last month, has been the target of feminist associations. Denouncing "the culture of rape en Marche", two weeks ago, several thousand demonstrators protested in Paris and in several cities against his presence in the government.
In his speech on Sunday, the Minister of the Interior paid tribute to Father Hamel "who died under the blows of the most infamous and blind barbarism". His assassination “did not affect only Christians. He touched the whole of France in his heart and in his mind, ”he added.
