The Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden, holds a big lead in the polls against President Trump, and is currently considered a big favorite to win the November election. But Biden has yet to make the most important decision in his campaign - who will run alongside him as the potential vice president.

On ordinary days the decision on the deputy or vice president of a presidential candidate is seen as one that may shape the campaign. But this time it seems that the environment of the former vice president is aimed not only at a good choice that will promote the democratic card, but first and foremost at a candidate who will not harm God forbid the campaign and the great momentum created around him.

"The first rule of thumb is to do no harm," a campaign adviser told Politico. "I hope the candidacy investigation is good, because the heart of Trump's campaign will be 'Biden loses it, he's 77, and this woman will be the president.'

On the one hand, it seems that Biden, who has already pledged to choose a woman as his deputy, is under less pressure, as he has no need to choose a candidate who will change the direction of the campaign or save a sinking ship.

"We don't have to shake up the race, just add a property," Wade Randelt, a fundraiser for Biden in the San Francisco area, told the Los Angeles Times. "It could be a historic choice, and one that would not cause harm."

On the other hand, the former vice president is under heavy pressure to elect a black candidate, especially in the face of growing protests from the African-American community, a community whose turnout may dominate the entire election campaign. But it is possible that his great advantage in the polls will give Biden a greater political space, which will allow him to choose someone who suits him personally.

According to his associates, Biden is looking to appoint someone who will be for him what he was for former President Obama - loyal, experienced and someone who will be easy to connect with. "His relationship with Obama was one of true closeness and trust," a confidant of Biden told Politico.

Among the candidates Biden is considering are Senator Elizabeth Warren, Congresswoman Karen Bass, Senator Tami Duckworth, Senator Camela Harris, Congresswoman Val Demings and former National Security Adviser Susan Rice. The process of electing the deputy gives a glimpse into the decision-making process of the Democratic candidate. He consults with a variety of factors, but will eventually make the decision along with family members and close counselors.

Apart from Susan Rice, who was a senior member of the Obama administration, none of the candidates has a long-standing relationship with Biden, so it is estimated that the personal interviews he will conduct in the near future will be more important than ever in making the decision, after which the favorite may be chosen.
