Soprano Monique Borrelli died at the age of 59 on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, at the northern hospital in Marseille. She was admitted there Monday evening in critical condition after being stabbed by her adopted son, an 18-year-old young man.
The drama began on Monday July 20, at approximately 10 p.m. According to France Bleu, Monique Borrelli, her husband and her son are then at home, in Châteauneuf-le-Rouge, near Aix-en-Provence. Originally from Hyères, in the Var, Monique Borrelli was a graduate of the Marseille Conservatory and a medalist at the Nice Conservatory, recalls Nice Matin . The soprano was among the finalists of the Marmande competition in 1998 and 1999. Two years later, she won first prize at the Forum lyrique arlésien.
In 2012, Monique Borrelli sang in the Choirs of Provence in 2012 during performances of Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, in the Church of Notre-Dame du Mont de Marseille. She also gave singing lessons.
