The United States welcomed a new ceasefire agreement between the Afghan government and the Taliban on Tuesday and hoped for a quick start to negotiations.

" I welcome the ceasefire announcements " for the start of Eid al-Adha on Friday, said Ross Wilson, a senior US diplomat in Kabul. " I hope that the two sides will fulfill their commitments and start the inter-Afghan negotiations quickly ," he wrote on Twitter.
