On July 13, federal judge Rodolfo Canicoba Corral submitted his resignation to President Alberto Fernández. In his letter, he spoke of a "fierce smear campaign and media / political persecution" during the four years of Mauricio Macri's presidency. In the last ten days, before leaving the office he occupies 27 years ago, the magistrate prosecuted four former Macrista officials, dismissed Axel Kicillof and dismissed Ricardo Echegaray. This Wednesday is his last day as a judge, he even had time to prosecute  Nicolás Dujovne in the case for the tolls concessions.

With five open investigations against him at the Judicial Council, Judge Canicoba Corral decided to resign his position just over ten days ago. The resignation will be effective from the 30th of the current month. The federal judge will turn 75 on July 29. With the resignation, all the files opened against him will be closed automatically.

In the last ten days, Canicoba Corral has advanced in a file whose prosecutor's charges were from 2019, whose main defendants are former officials of the previous government. Two days after investigating the former holder of National Roads Javier Iguacel and the former attorney general of the Treasury, Bernardo Saravia Frías, he processed them for fraudulent administration. The same dynamic accompanied the decision that led to the prosecution of former Transport Minister Guillermo Dietrich.

The former Macrista officials were prosecuted for having benefited Autopistas del Sol (AUSOL) and the Concesionario Oeste SA group - in which Macri- group companies participated with the extension of the concessions in Acceso Norte and Acceso Oeste, without tender, until 2030, in an act that included the recognition of alleged debts due to rate arrears of $ 499 million and $ 247 million, respectively.

This Tuesday, he also prosecuted the former economy minister, Nicolás Dujovne, in the cause of tolls. It was the last one missing. It was in record time: he investigated it on Monday and processed it on Tuesday.

This Tuesday he signed another resolution, in which Governor Axel Kicillof , the former head of the General Syndicate of the Nation, Daniel Reposo, were dismissed in the case where the Grupo Clarín Board of Directors had denounced them for breaking into an assembly where “they maintained an attitude hostile, with gross attacks on the authorities of the assembly and shareholders of the company. "

For Canicoba Corral “the representatives of the State, far from committing a crime, defended the State participation in the company, actively participating - to a greater or lesser extent - in the Assembly and deliberating on the interests of the parties, giving their opinion on the points treated during the act ”.

Canicoba Corral had already dismissed Ricardo Echegaray. Now, that measure was firm. It was in a case for illicit enrichment. Despite the fact that there was an expertise pending, five years ago, the judge did not wait for the result and decided that there was no evidence to accuse the former AFIP head . The Anti-Corruption Office withdrew from the appeal of said measure, and thus, the dismissal was final.

In the coming days, Judge Julián Ercolini will be the one to subrogate the court that leaves Canicoba Corral where files such as the attack on AMIA passed through the investigation against former Secretary of the Environment María Julia Alsogaray, which led to his arrest.

In his resignation from a facet that elevated the President of the Nation, Canicoba pointed to Macrism and the media. He said he was leaving the court " because of the weariness, although without having broken my will , of having suffered in the last four years a fierce campaign of defamation and media / political persecution by the media and various agencies that responded to the government of the time, as know each other these days. "

The magistrate had five complaints in the Judicial Council for alleged illicit enrichment, alleged bribes and bribery requests and even an alleged collection of ex-SIDE bonuses, along with the use of private business planes that were involved in corruption cases. Upon resignation, he will collect a retirement of at least $ 300,000 per month.
