Gambian President Adama Barrow “ immediately ” went into isolation on Wednesday July 29 after testing positive for the new coronavirus from his vice-president Isatu Touray, the Gambian presidency announced.

Mr Barrow will be in solitary confinement for two weeks, the presidency said on Twitter, without further details regarding the vice president. “ We remind the public that the coronavirus is real and exists in The Gambia, ” she continued.
She calls on citizens to wear masks and practice social distancing to stem the virus in this former British colony of some two million inhabitants. The country has declared 326 cases of coronavirus for eight deaths, according to a latest report. There is a lack of infrastructure to cope with such an epidemic, like other countries in West Africa.
