(CNN Spanish) –– The interim government of Bolivia announced this Wednesday that it filed a criminal lawsuit against former President Evo Morales, the executive secretary of the Central Obrera Boliviana (COB) Juan Carlos Huarachi and other leaders of the Movement to Socialism (MAS) for the mobilizations this Tuesday against the postponement of the general elections.

"Their mobilizations, demonstrations and irresponsible blockades are taking lives, exposing their own followers and the entire population to the risk of massive contagion," said the Minister of the Presidency, Yerko Núñez, when making the announcement. He added that the complaint includes crimes "against public health, public instigation to commit a crime, advocacy of crime, criminal association and destruction or deterioration of state property." CNN is looking for the people mentioned in this complaint.

In videos broadcast on social networks and the media, crowds were observed in several cities. Through his Twitter account, Morales congratulated the protesters: “We salute the great effort of the people who, despite all the difficulties, demonstrated today for life and democracy. It is the great conscience of Bolivians who know that the great problems will be solved with unity for our dignity and sovereignty. ” This publication was cited by Núñez as proof that the former president would incite this type of mobilization.

The general elections, originally scheduled for May, were postponed by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE). First to September, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, and then to October as the health authorities project that the highest level of infections would occur from August. The MAS interprets that not holding the elections on September 6 is "undemocratic".

Recall that after the October 2019 elections and amid accusations of fraud, Evo Morales resigned from office the following month and is now in Argentina as an asylee. The exmandatario always denied the accusations of fraud.

According to figures from the Ministry of Health, until this Tuesday Bolivia records 72,327 cases of covid-19 and 2,720 deaths associated with the disease.
