Behind every event or occurrence another event or occurrence can be discerned. This was the case this week after the confrontation that did not take place, that is, the attempted attack that Hezbollah members tried or did not try to carry out on the northern border.

Despite the great support he receives from Iran, Hezbollah is no longer the same organization it used to be. Tired and exhausted from the civil war in Syria into which he put himself, he lost much - but not all - of the military effect he had.

But the real story is its image decline. His support in the Arab world is waning, and he is living on his prestige vapor as an organization involved in opposition to the State of Israel. The status of the secretary general, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, is at an unprecedented low.

Among the Palestinian people, the organization has won a great deal of sympathy and sympathy in the past, and it must be admitted that it also had centers of support in Arab society in Israel. Until the Second Lebanon War, there were those who believed that the organization would conquer the Galilee from Israel one day, and remember his "cobweb" speech. Paradoxically, the organization's propaganda machine also received an effective response from the Israeli media, which often attributed high credibility to sources from Hezbollah and strengthened its image as an organization that keeps its promises and fulfills its threats.

All of this caused many in the Arab public to see the Shiite Nasrallah as the leader of the Arab world, the only one who could stand up to the whole world, and especially to Israel and the United States (and Saudi Arabia as well). Despite his actual involvement in the daily fighting in Syria, Hezbollah continued to threaten with its weapons inside, in Lebanon, and not in many cases Lebanese leaders and citizens called for the 1559 UN resolution to disarm the organization and let the army control the country's borders. The southern.

The Arab society in Israel, it must be admitted, had support for the organization. Nasrallah has to some extent replaced previous leaders who have aroused sympathy: a picture of Jamal 'Abd al-Nasser was hung on the walls of houses in the 1950s and 1960s, and in the 1980s and 1990s the eyes were on Yasser Arafat. However, after the collapse of Oslo and the shattering of the Palestinian state's dream, many began to pursue Nasrallah, without paying attention to his ties with Iran and his set of interests.

In the last decade, the trend of support for the organization has decreased dramatically, among citizens and political leaders alike. Senior members of the Islamic Movement, for example, already call the organization Hezb al-Shaytan (Satan Party), and secular parties, such as Balad and Hadash, also renounce it, especially in light of its involvement in war crimes in Syria. Outside the Israeli context - its internal relations in Lebanon and its involvement in the Arab countries where there is conflict - the organization is criticized, and even denounced in many countries. The decline of his prestige evokes optimism, but also warns: you understand where the road to restoring his status goes.
