INTERVIEW - Faced with the country's state of health emergency, the president of the Territorial Collectivity of Guyana returns from two days of meetings with ministers in Paris, Monday and Tuesday.

LE FIGARO. - An overseas territory with the most deaths linked to Covid-19, Guyana remains in a state of health emergency until October 30. Is the peak of the epidemic behind you?

Rodolphe ALEXANDRE. - The end of the epidemic is gradual. We are organizing to ensure the start of the school year and reopen schools that have been closed since the end of February. In Guyana, the crisis acted as a revelation: it brought to light all the flaws in our health system.

What are you asking from the executive?

More than ever, Guyana must have a University Hospital Center (CHU) (none of its three hospitals have this status, Editor's note) . Martinique, Guadeloupe, Reunion each have one. Not us. It is a social injustice for the Guyanese. Our region should no longer be forgotten by the healthcare system! With the transformation of the Cayenne hospital into a CHU, we would be endowed with better equipment, more teachers, a faculty where our children could study.
