Formula 1 is on alert. The Mexican Sergio Pérez, from whom it was known earlier that he was isolated, waiting to know the results of a second test in COVID-19 after having obtained an inconclusive result in the first, was finally confirmed as positive for the virus.
Formula 1 confirmed the novelty through its official accounts on social networks, adding that the pilot had therefore been excluded from the British Grand Prix, which will take place this Sunday.

"Sergio Pérez will not take part in the Great Britain Grand Prix this weekend after testing positive for the Covid-19. He is self-isolated and we wish him a speedy recovery," the category statement said.
On the other hand, he reports that in due course Racing Point will announce the Mexican's replacement for the competition, who at least for now would not be at risk.
The Racing Point team had previously communicated that Pérez's absence this Thursday at the Silverstone circuit during mandatory contact with the press was due to an "inconclusive" result in the coronavirus test to which he was subjected.

Just 24 hours earlier, Checo Pérez looked forward to the fourth Formula 1 Grand Prix this weekend at Silverstone.
"We are going with all this weekend to go one step further in the classification", he had written on his Instagram account, with a photo in which he was seen in the surprising sixth position of the drivers' championship thanks to the great start of Racing Point.

His case is the first of a pilot in Formula 1 but not the only one among those participating in the category since his return in the midst of the pandemic. Two weeks ago, despite strict security measures and almost 5,000 tests carried out so far, two positives were discovered before the Hungarian Grand Prix .
Although "no specific details about teams or individuals" were given, what F1 did report is that the two infected "were not present in Austria", where the first two races were held. "Both affected have been withdrawn from operations and isolated. Tracing of close contacts has been completed and isolation has been carried out," the category explained.
