The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella arrived in the center of Bologna for his day of visiting the family members of the victims of the Ustica massacres and on August 2, 1980, in the year of the fortieth anniversary. After Pertini, he is the first head of state present at the commemorations.
Mattarella will first follow Mass in St. Peter's Cathedral, celebrated by Cardinal Matteo Zuppi. Then he will go to the station to pay homage to the plaque commemorating the fallen in the waiting room of the station where the bomb exploded which killed 85 people and injured 200. Afterwards, it will be at the Museum of the memory of Ustica, where the wreck of the DC9 Bologna-Palermo plane that sank on June 27, 1980, with 81 victims.
