When he was asked about Sino-US relations, he described the situation with China as being reversed, saying that the international community supports Washington’s policies.
Pompeo appeared at the hearing of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to accept questions from congressmen. It was also his public testimony in the past 15 months. He mentioned the recent incidents in which the two countries closed each other's embassies separately, saying that the Chinese consulate in Houston is a den of spies.
Some congressmen believe that under the leadership of Pompeo, the United States has successively failed on the international stage and handed over its advantages to competitors. Pompeo believes that many countries have responded to Washington's call, including abandoning Huawei's 5G equipment and strengthening maritime deployment in the South China Sea. He pointed out that the foreign policy of the United States has made the international community aware of the threat from the CCP and described the situation as being reversed.
However, Pompeo also bluntly stated that under the influence of China's economic power, it is very difficult for countries to form an alliance against Beijing. He was also surprised and dissatisfied with many countries' support for China to implement the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law in Hong Kong.
In terms of European policy, Pompeo stated that President Trump (Vladimir Putin) does not support Russian President Vladimir Putin, but did not respond positively to Moscow's claims that it is suspected of rewarding militants for attacking US troops in Afghanistan. He also believed that Germany did not seem to have detected a threat from Russia, so Washington decided to withdraw some of its troops there, saying that Russia would face more U.S. sanctions because of the construction of the Beixi 2 natural gas pipeline connecting Europe.
