A London court found the 49-year-old tax lawyer, who accused his accusers of lying, guilty of the charges. She is due to hand down her sentence in September, with the judge warning that there was a " very real possibility " that he would be jailed.

Charlie Elphicke was first suspended from the Conservative Party in November 2017, when sexual assault charges emerged, before being reinstated in December 2018 by Prime Minister Theresa May shortly before a vote of no confidence was held against she.

After his indictment, Charlie Elphicke was once again suspended, further reducing the very small majority of the ruling party in the turmoil over Brexit. It was his wife Natalie Elphicke who had succeeded him in his constituency in the legislative elections last December. " The verdict (...) puts an end to my 25-year marriage with the only man I loved ", she reacted on Twitter, after leaving the court separately from her husband.
