A 31-year-old woman died and three other people were slightly injured on Friday July 31 after a rock slide on a mountain hiking trail in the Basque Country, the Kakuetta gorges, said the gendarmerie. Shortly before 3:00 pm, rocks “ the size of a basketball ” broke off the walls of the gorges, located in the town of Sainte-Engrace, falling on a group of hikers.

A 31-year-old woman from Talence (Gironde), shot in the head, was fatally beaten. Previously, the young woman, raising her head to the sound of falling rocks, pushed a 4-year-old girl who was at her side, thus saving her from the shock, said the gendarmerie.
The little girl was injured in the arm. A couple in the same group were also slightly injured. A group of hikers who were walking upstream were " secured " by the emergency services. All those present had been evacuated at the end of the afternoon, according to the same source.
