President Alberto Fernández announces this Friday the extension of the quarantine together with the Buenos Aires governor, Axel Kicillof, and the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, the heads of the two districts where the focus of infections is concentrated within the framework of the coronavirus pandemic.
The announcement was scheduled for 12 at the Olivos residence. A few hours earlier, the president had met almost four hours with Kicillof and Rodríguez Larreta to analyze the epidemiological situation in the City of Buenos Aires and the Buenos Aires suburbs, where social, preventive and compulsory isolation has been in force since March.
The head of state and the leaders agreed on the need "not to produce a greater opening of quarantine" in the AMBA and "appeal to the individual responsibility" of citizens to avoid social gatherings, according to reports. Isolation would continue without major changes for at least two more weeks.
The trigger clause that Fernández reserves will be latent, in the event of a jump in the number of cases and occupation of ICU beds, expediting the revision of the measure. What Kicillof called "intermittent quarantine".
The meeting of Thursday also included the Ministers of Health of the province of Buenos Aires, Daniel Gollan, and of the Federal Capital, Fernán Quirós, as well as the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo de Pedro; the head of the Buenos Aires Cabinet, Carlos Bianco; the deputy head of the City Government, Diego Santilli, and the head of the Buenos Aires Cabinet, Felipe Miguel.
Previously, as he usually does in the hours prior to the definition of a new mandatory isolation, the President had held a meeting with the infectious diseases and epidemiologists who are members of the Committee of Experts that has advised him since the start of the pandemic.
The Ministry of Health reported on Friday morning 25 new deaths with respect to the latest report, bringing the number of deaths from Covid-19 to 3,466. A new daily casualty record had been reported Thursday night : 153 .
