Automotive: a new conversion bonus as of Monday

2020-08-03T06:37:41.268Z

As of Monday, August 3, the amount of aid (excluding ecological bonus) for the purchase of an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle will again be capped at 5,000 euros.

In order to help manufacturers to sell their unsold stocks during confinement, the amount of the conversion bonus, intended for French people who buy an electric or hybrid vehicle, was raised to 7,000 euros last June. Building on their success, these 200,000 exceptional conversion bonuses as part of the recovery plan for the automotive industry, weakened by the Covid-19 crisis, had all been awarded at the end of July.

If the extension of the conversion bonus, " attractive to accelerate the reduction of CO2 emissions and the renewal of the French car fleet " according to Bercy, is well established, the terms of the device are now less generous.

An effort in favor of the most modest households

As of Monday, August 3, the amount of aid (excluding ecological bonus) for the purchase of an electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle is now capped at 5,000 euros. The scale of this new system, applied according to income, becomes again similar to that which prevailed before the car support plan, with a particular effort in favor of the most modest households.

As a reminder, the conversion bonus is granted to replace vehicles classified Crit'Air 3 or older, that is to say gasoline vehicles registered before 2006 and diesel vehicles registered before 2011. Ranging from 1500 to 2500 euros for the purchase of a Crit'air 1 or 2 vehicle, the amount of the conversion bonus according to the new system depends on the reference tax income (RFR) of the applicant and the type of vehicle purchased. The amount is thus almost halved compared to the value of the conversion bonus set up as part of the recovery plan (between 3,000 and 5,000 euros).

The premium is doubled for households with a reference tax income less than or equal to 6,300 euros per share and for non-taxable heavy riders ” (those who drive more than 30 km to get to work). These populations can thus obtain up to 3,000 euros in rebates for the purchase of a thermal model and 5,000 euros in aid for the purchase of a new or used electric or hybrid vehicle.

The government also maintains the state surcharge of up to 1000 euros for citizens living or working in a “ low emission zone ” (ZFE) and when similar aid has been granted by the local authority concerned. Eligibility for the premium for converting the conversion of a heat engine into an electric motor is also reinforced, in the same way as the purchase of an electric vehicle.

Finally, the conversion bonus being cumulative, subject to conditions, with the ecological bonus, individuals, taxable or not, who buy an electric car for less than 45,000 euros can benefit from a total of 8,500 euros in subsidies (2,500 euros of conversion bonus + 6,000 euros ecological bonus). The 20% of households with the lowest incomes can receive 11,000 euros (5,000 euros bonus + 6,000 euros bonus).
