He climbed onto a balcony in a burning house and saved four children trapped in the fire. It happened in Isnello, a small town in the Madonie. The protagonist of the acrobatic rescue Nunzio Mogavero, a 49-year-old forest worker, recalled by the desperate cries coming from an apartment in the historic center near a church where a funeral was being celebrated.
After the operation, he was taken to hospital for a leg injury. The flames flared up on the ground floor and spread to the first floor where there were three little sisters and their cousin. The girls' mother had left to go shopping just before a fire broke out, apparently caused by a short circuit in the electrical system.

Mogavero attempted to enter the building but the front door was blocked. With the help of two carabinieri who were attending the funeral, he managed to reach the balcony on the first floor by climbing the wall. He then grabbed the little ones and one by one dropped them from above, handing them to the people who had gathered on the street. Nunzio Mogavero is known for other episodes of generosity.

Last year he rescued a tourist who had gotten lost in the woods and previously saved a deer trapped in a wire mesh.
